essentially just “*Ghosface voice* ‘where’s your mask?’” - The Movie. which isn’t as bad, ridiculous, or plainly laughable as it sounds—Sick is actually decently enjoyable! Williamson’s writing, though permanently caught in a Craven loop, always understands how to meld enticing suspense with the better-portions of slasher antics, remaining structurally-sound, even if never capable of reinventing the wheel that’s gone ‘round for decades now. the COVID stuff somehow avoids being an insufferable thread and instead, produces a serial antagonizing of extremist quarantine psychosis, slathered in blood, an overly-satisfying, breakneck second/third act, and a gratifying reminiscence on a bygone era of horror without solely relying on it.
