I’ve starting watching way less trailers this past year, and didn’t watch anything for The Fabelmans. I saw it was Spielberg and knew I’d see it regardless, so why not go in blind. It’s been an interesting year doing more of this and has made approaching some films certainly spicier. James Cameron doing the damn thing once again! Way of Water is everything you’d want in a sequel and is quite the spectacle. The visuals are on game changing groundbreaking levels, where watching the world of Pandora live and breathe transports you back into this beautiful alien planet. The way the water moved with the world and everything it interacted with was mind blowing. Scenes with humans, Na’vi, vehicles, animals, and plants, going from land to water all flowed…

Stunning animation that starts off with a bang. The action is crisp, easy to follow, and packs a punch for an animated film. The world created around these hunters and warriors had fun lore and made exploring it entertaining throughout. The themes got a little in your face there at the end, but not to the point of it being unpleasant or souring the film as a whole. Pleasantly surprised and would recommend!

Director Joon-ho Bong delivers one of the wildest cinematic roller coasters I’ve ever been apart of. It’s a hilarious, gruesome, and deeply layered story that isn’t something you can classify or explain to others. Following Ki-taek’s family, who are all unemployed, but resourceful and wickedly cunning, Parasite (Gisaengchung) takes you through the loops and corkscrews of social status, greed, and how the system will continue to step on your throat no matter what cards you’re dealt.

Ari Aster does is again! Midsommar displays some of the most thrilling and haunting portrayals of grief and codependency. Aster drags you into this dreadful nightmare within the first 20 minutes, only to then hypnotize you with how he displays the sun soaked landscapes of Sweden. It’s an exhausting and uncomfortable, yet hilarious ride where every frame, bit of dialogue, and piece of sound plays into the bigger picture.
