Rear Window 1954
I never saw Rear Window because all my film school professors would show the opening scene to make a point about visual storytelling and then go “you’ve all seen the rest.”
This felt like a play, which I love. Its’ just watching these people fall down a wicked rabbit hole, all because they’re bored. They’re proto true crime fans and it’s captivating. Every sequence where we’re starring into those windows feels transgressive. No wonder everyone wanted to make up stories…

Vertigo 1958
In college, I took a Hitchcock class where the professor had a nasty gimmick. He only showed Hitchcock’s obscure films, as most of us “had already seen” the classics. Whatever helps you sleep at night. As such, I have seen Mr and Mrs Smith, but not Vertigo. Perhaps I should rectify that this year.
