Lady in the Water 2006
Shyamalan is major.
Imagine telling a bedtime story to your children, then making a film out of it.
The relationship between Story and Cleveland is so beautiful! I can't recall the last time I saw a relationship like that in a film.
And, the way Shyamalan films often operate on the faith of the characters. A faith so pure and real. Beautiful.
A film not only as a story, but a treatise on film, the human condition, and all the beautiful things this world has to offer even in light of the tragic.
Truly, a film as a prayer.

Something like a 90s version of Metropolis with a better story. There is an interesting idea running through this film regarding how much of our memory dictates who we become. I suppose in that respect the film is similar to other meditations on memory like Memento and La Jetee.
