Spencer

Spencer ★★★★½

Utterly enchanting and mystifying, like a fairytale ripped straight out of the pages and rewritten into history, Spencer is such a uniquely felt look into the life of Princess Diana’s last holiday excursion before her tragic passing. What starts as a somber but familiar story about the royal lifestyle and it’s quiet suffocation turns into the struggle to find identity and independence and ultimately looking into the past, love and bravery to rise above it all. Kristen Stewart gives what is possibly one of her finest performances to date, not only channeling Diana down to a T but bringing her own essence of emotion that grips you from start to finish. Johnny Greenwood’s score and Claire Mathon’s cinematography are haunting in their own unique ways! Best of the year stuff all around!!
