Rewatched this for an upcoming episode of my Yearview Mirror podcast. This was the first time I saw this since seeing it in the theatre upon its release. It held up well after 30+ years but not enough to move my original rating one way or the other.

It occurred to me about 15 minutes in to this, I had never seen it.  I had convinced myself I had seen it when it was first released but this was definitely the first time.  So after 36 years, I was all the more eager to take this movie in.

The film did a commendable job of telling the story of boots-on-the-ground soldiers during wartime. Some overdramatized scenes here and there but I was impressed with Stone’s effort on depicting…
