Kurt’s review published on Letterboxd:
Kelly Reichardt does more than make films; she gives me inner peace.
First Cow is a film loaded with meaning found within the simplest (and most mundane, on paper) of gestures. Among many things, it’s a BEAUTIFUL* movie, and yet it’s also one of the most scathing critiques of American society Reichardt has ever produced. (Or, maybe during our current state of affairs, it just seems that way.) Simultaneously optimistic, with its core friendship at the story, and pessimistic, with its views on capitalism and how it treats societal classes.
*Unfortunate not to have seen this in a theater. It would have been the most relaxing movie-going experience in a long time.
