Happiest Season

Happiest Season ★★★½

“You are my family.”

I had zero expectations for this so everything about it felt refreshing. I think it’s hard to make a well balanced comedy-drama that does its job so well, so whenever I find one that manages to make me laugh and almost cry at the same time, I know it’s a rare occasion. Now, that makes it already good enough, but the fact that it is also a christmas story... and it’s good, makes it so much better.
Cute, wholesome, heartbreaking, emotional, all elements come together so nicely and seamlessly that it just feels right. It’s fun while also dealing with some not-so-fun topics regarding sexuality and identity. Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis were great together. There wasn’t a single character I didn’t like, even the ones that were there as simple comedic reliefs were great, but personally Mary Holland’s Jane was my favorite.
Not really anything I would complain about, except I wish Aubrey Plaza had gotten more screen time, but I guess we can’t always have it all.
