Kevflix And Chill’s review published on Letterboxd:
Wow! What a fun movie. The action/fight sequences are some of the best I’ve seen in a Marvel movie. Simu Liu is really charismatic and carries the film well along with Awkwafina, who’s charm grows on me with every film in which I see her. Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh are legendary, as actors and action stars. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a refreshing entry in the MCU. It has formidable villain, yet it’s also one that you can also sympathize with and understand their motivations. While it is a completely stand alone story, it definitely feels more connected to the greater MCU than Black Widow does, largely because Shang-Chi takes place in the present. The connections are small but I guess I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed that. With covid pushing release dates back, it’s been a while since we’ve had a proper cross-over event film. I didn’t love the climactic battle. It delves more into the cgi rather than the impressive martial arts action of the rest of the film. Still, this certainly has me looking forward to more of what Marvel has in store in the future for the big screen.
Also, ……Ben Kingsley, you are a national treasure.
