What a great atmospheric picture. Robert Eggers created his very own vision of a Nordic legend. The movie intertwines perfectly realistic parts of the legend with the mythical parts in such a flowing way.
Besides the awesome storytelling we have an amazing score and sound as well as a dark, filled with violence, cinematography.
While this year many movies have already badly disappointed me, this work didn't. Another key to the success was the great cast. Alexander Skarsgård showed what he's capable of. However, we have to talk about Anya Taylor-Joy. She has become one of my absolute favourite actresses. I loved her performance in The New Mutants and also The VVitch. Her mimic work is extraordinary. The list of the cast didn't end with these both: Ethan Hawk, Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe and many more.
If you should have the opportunity to watch the movie on blu-ray don't miss the deleted scenes. Those prove how great the final cut of the movie was. The movie doesn't try to explain with words but pictures.
