    Freddy Got Fingered

    Eat your heart out, Soderbergh.

  • August: Osage County

    August: Osage County

This movie is like pornography to me. I get nothing but pure euphoric pleasure watching these people scream right in each other's faces with the energy of a prizefighter match. They throw shit, tackle each other, they give big cruel monologues and hurl nasty insults without even flinching. I can't get enough of it. Make more movies that are just 2 hours of people yelling and getting upset.

  • The House That Jack Built

    The House That Jack Built

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

"Love, Jack. Love is also an art. Not to mention, intimacy."
"...The Iceman always inhaled his victim's last breath."

A second viewing meant I wasn't distracted by how shocking the violence was and was able to really soak in just how perfectly executed the comedy and self-deprecation is balanced here. Bruno Ganz (a man most famous for portraying Hitler) is such a perfect casting choice his presence alone is brilliant. To claim this isn't autobiographical is a willfully ignorant…

  • Burning

Evil is real, and it doesn't look like an ugly monster. Heroes exist, but not everyone can be saved, or may not be worth saving at all. BURNING floats between realms of dreamy fantasy and disturbed paranoia, never letting go of it's vice grip on the tension of every scene. As the mystery escalates and worst fears edge closer to reality, complete dread takes control. Absolutely blown away at director Lee Chang-dong's masterful ability to capture such perfect portraits of…

  • Close-Up

"Aren't you acting for the camera right now? What are you doing now?"
"I'm speaking of my suffering. I'm not acting. I'm speaking from the heart."

The true definition of a crime of passion, and an intimate portrait of a man more spiritually connected to films than his own religion. It is genuinely unbelievable to me that parts of this film are actual documentary footage. The way Sabzian speaks is so complex and intelligent, it's incredible he's not reading off a script (at least not all the time.)

  • Princess Mononoke

    Princess Mononoke

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

No matter how many times I watch this I still can't believe Miyazaki made a movie where the main character decapitates two people and he totally got away with it.

  • Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

    Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

"I looked at you tonight and you weren't there... And I'm gonna howl it out, and I'm not gonna give a damn what I do and I'm gonna make the biggest goddamn explosion you've ever heard!"

I am an absolute sucker for dramatic arguments and yelling in movies and with this film I was like a kid sticking his head under the slurpy machine and just letting god take the wheel. Over 2 straight hours of nonstop conflict and tension.…

  • Miami Connection

    Miami Connection

Miami Connection has and likely always will be my favorite "bad" movie. Every low-budget set, every amateurishly-executed stunt, and every completely baffling character and plot point, filled with the genuine charm of a man who only wanted to do one thing: teach people about the importance of karate and also life or something.

Every time I've sat down with this film I notice something new - the character who never changes his bloody head wound bandages for several days, or…
