Khrustalyov, My Car! 1998
You can draw a line from “Come and See” to this to “Donbass” in terms of expressing the sheer chaos, confusion, violence and dark absurdity of wars of all kinds, captured in a freewheeling, episodic, hellish tapestry.
There’s a part at the end where he’s treating Stalin on his deathbed and he asks, “is he your father?” (not realizing who it is) and the man scoffs and then basically says, oh yeah well kind of, that’s a way to put it, and I felt like I understood Russia just a little bit more.
Shoutout to Borjomi

The Worst Person in the World 2021
Surreal to see all my feelings put into a movie starring Norwegian Dakota Johnson.
