Kappelen’s review published on Letterboxd:
Realizing after seeing this that Ari Aster also wrote and directed Midsommar explains a lot. While Midsommar is more of a horror drama, Hereditary is a horror thriller. They share many similarities as they both provide a dive into the main characters mentality and trauma, themes of ancestry and ritualism and disturbing events and images.
It does bring some originality to the horror genre with some fine acting from Toni Collette and Alex Wolff and decent performances from Ann Dowd, Milly Shapiro and Gabriel Byrne. It's quite entertaining and chilling and I do find myself at the edge of my seat most of the time.
