Best films of 2016

Whittled down from the 135 releases of 2016 I have seen. This is a list of films I have awarded at least four stars to on a first watch.

That said, it's been a strong year with a whole ream of very good films rated at 3.5 stars below this selection.

Embrace of the Serpent is my favourite of the year, the top five mostly in order and the rest...God knows. It feels impossible to fairly rank a film I've seen once at the start of the year, versus something more recent. So outside the top 5 this isn't decisively ranked.

The bottom line is, they are all good films and hopefully there's some stuff on here that might intrigue you enough to check them out.
