‘Fast & Furious. The Expendables. Transporter. Taken. The Bourne trilogy. The Matrix series. Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2. The Raid films. Undisputed. Ip Man. Daniel Craig's James Bond. Mission Impossible.’
What do these franchises have in common?
They've officially been surpassed by John Wick to become my absolute fav modern action-movie franchise of all time.
Writing has never been John Wick’s strong suit but it gets an easy pass thx to solid action & fun worldbuilding. This time around however the script…
Setting aside my own personal DC fanboy bias, I find it impossible to believe that even the most jaded and distant comic-book movie watcher would not find something to be won over by the latest Shazam! instalment. The director of modern horror classic Lights Out and the best Annabelle movie (Annabelle: Creation) David F. Sandberg returns, proving that like Sam Raimi, Guillermo Del Toro & James Wan, horror directors are continuing to make some of the best entries in the oversaturated…
The only thing I remembered most abt Guardians 1 in the summer of 2014 was there was another major IP blockbuster around the same time that did the 'band-of-superpowered-misfits-as-a-family-unit' better with superior action & snappier comedy which I enjoyed way more & it was Platinum Dunes now defunct reboot of TMNT starring Megan Fox & Will Arnett. All of which is to say I am dying on that hill alone.

China has made countless animated films in the past but Ne Zha marks their first real serious attempt to compete with animation giants Pixar, Disney & Dreamworks by replicating the three-pronged success of any animated films - storytelling, groundbreaking animation & voice-acting. That effort appears to have resonated with audiences; at the time of this review, Ne Zha is close to reaching US$700 million in worldwide gross & has smashed almost every box-office record for a non-US animated film to-date.
Animated films haven’t…
Ok I’ve read most of the reviews guys, and I’m not sure what to tell you coz ...
I REALLY, REALLY LIKED DARK PHOENIX.
Ok dang I’m in trouble.
First of, a massive improvement over Apocalypse. But also so different compared to any other superhero movies this year. Simon Kinberg really dialed back the CG, focusing less on spectacle & more on intimate, powerful character-driven drama. James McAvoy & Michael Fassbender are splendid as always. Both of them have incredible chemistry & continue to be…
