I’ll remember this next time I’m picking a movie in poker night

We often discuss whether a remake is justified or not. While I’m not of the mentality that you should never remake classic movies, there are a handful that I would say deserve not to be touched. Ben Hur is very much one of these movies.

I realized it’s been exactly one year since I first watched this (late night and everything) so of course I had to watch it.

It truly is one of my absolute favorite Scorsese movies. For the first several years of my cinephile life, I’ve definitely associated Scorsese with a few specific genres (mob, biopic etc). Without question one of the most self aware movies I’ve seen in recent time, this movie only can really work with a star as outlandish as the plot. Fortunately for the world, we were blessed with the existence of Nicolas Cage.

Also, that Humphrey Bogart joke will now be with me anytime I watch one of his films, so thank you.

    Wow, so here we go...

2001: A Space Odyssey is by no means a movie I've loved since i first saw it. From first watching it for the first time on my iPod touch (I hate myself too lmao) to my multiple rewatches in the years since, it has grown to be one of the seminal movies in my evolution as a film fan.

Tonight, I had the chance to see it in the best way possible - in theaters.…
