it is rare when watching a film that throughout watching it hits me that this is instantly one of my favourite films, but that happened during this incredible picture. The film weaves between reality, dreams, desires so seamlessly it leaves you pondering at is what I am interpreting what I supposed to be interpreting and no film has ever really made me feel that way before. Each shot feels so meticulous and personal, the soundtrack is delightful, the acting is top-notch, and the colouring is phenomenal, the use of black and white colouring particularly making this so effective. The monstrous set design represents everything about our main character - a task bitten off more than could chew and one where leaving the end product unfinished. The use of lighting is delightful, carefully framed characters and props. I can't even think of the last time a film swept me off my feet in the way 8,1/2 did.
