    One of the wildest films I’ve ever seen in a theater—a category that also includes Eraserhead and Showgirls.

    I love Shyamalan so much. He speaks in a different cinematic language than anyone else. This might be the best-looking film he’s ever made (several shots made me gasp), and the brilliant deadpan dialogue of The Happening is dialed up to 100 here.

    But so is that film’s portrayal of grief, the sense of having to react quickly to sudden changes humans…

    It was fun to see a film about the era of music that influenced me most, but this is the least innovative of Haynes’ music biopics, its experimentation mostly limited to structuring the narrative in such a way that comparisons to Citizen Kane are unavoidable. Despite this, it had enough glitter to warm its way into my gay little heart at various points throughout.
