After Cuaron’s streak of flashy and more visually focused films, Cuaron returns to a more character focused drama with Roma. And it fucking blew my mind. The film is stunning for its entirety and is absolutely gut wrenching at moments. Alfonso Cuaron’s direction is great per usual, but what elevates the images on screen is the incredible Yalitza Aparicio who gives such a subdued and raw performance that deserves award attention. I appreciate that Netflix is putting this film out to the world for so many people to see, but it’s devastating that this is not showing in a lot of theaters especially because it would’ve been one awe inspiring experience.
