Jules ✨’s review published on Letterboxd:
Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it?
So, this movie is set in 2019 and I thought it was the perfect movie to start this year. To have the chance to look back at the recently ended year and how people 37 years ago imagined the world would look: Flying cars, over-populated cities, big buildings filled with neon lights, a seemingly eternal night with constant rain, high levels of pollution and dirt and andoids equal —or in some aspects even better— than humans.
In a lot of aspects, specially visuals, this resembles a film noir: dark lighting and shadowy environments and about a violent and corrupt society.
It's too bad she won't live! But then again, who does?
Blade Runner is a ciberpunk sci-fi dystopia that tackles strong subjects like globalization, environmental problems, and most important racism. Humans here struggle against their environment and how dangerous the living has become, while Replicants struggle against their short life-span and against the humans that want to ''retire'' them.
