The American Dream is a lie!

I thought the secret ingredient was supposed to be love? Sometimes a movie just doesn't connect with you and that is definitely the case for me and First Cow. The movie said "mooo" and I said "nooot really."

In this film some enterprising young men find a secret way to get rich that relies on a prize winning milking cow... drama and comedy ensues. I'm not too enamored with this time in our history which is weird because I love history but films about the era not named The Revenant tend to bore me a little bit. I still kind of like it but it wasn't my favorite thing. Kelly Reichardt's direction is undeniable and the lead performances are quite good just not memorable. The setting, costumes, cinematography, etc. are all effective I just have a harder time getting past the incredibly slow pace because I wasn't interested in the subject matter.

I admire what this film has to say about the American dream I just don't imagine I'll be thinking about this film for more than a few days and I'm disappointed about that as this was one of the films I was most looking forward to in 2020.
