a delicacy, a pastel delight, a perfect slice of wes anderson. a charming storybook that’s occasionally invaded by the barbaric slaughterhouse that was once known as humanity. my favorite comedy by far.

“to be frank, i think his world had vanished long before he ever entered it. but i will say, he certainly sustained the illusion with a marvelous grace.”

In many ways, this is a Princess Mononoke lite, but Miyazaki’s talent for astonishing world-building is on full display. Even though Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind loses its dramatic weight to clunky pacing, its expansive mythos and post-apocalyptic political drama are awe-inspiring. It’s rare to see this studio so brutal—images of violent (almost nuclear) imperialism and environmental failure depict corruption wasting away at our forests and valleys—but at its core, it’s compassionate and pure to a nearly melodramatic…

I kid you not, this is the next great movie of this generation.

"Evelyn, I'm not your husband. I'm another version of him from another universe. I'm here because we need your help."

Fervently original and unapologetically weird, the filmmaking duo aptly named 'Daniels' have made a creative masterwork only possible because they probably picked out every single emotion from the multiverse and piled them into a controlled, incoherent, cohesive, chaotic, singular movie. It had me sweating from laughter, almost…
