First Cow

As it pertains to capitalism: though the film’s criticisms are resonant and successfully emotionally weighted, there’s a refreshing lack of naive confidence in a path to utopia. Even in a “new land”, human nature creeps toward the Free Market. Though it’s obviously never truly free, but neither are we. And this is the game we play. “You need capital. Or a crime.” So, therefore, the sympathy for good-faith, arguably victimless rule breaking (especially when against those whose own rule breaking is careless and oppressive, to both man and land), creates a warm hearted buddy comedy inextricably tied to our country’s history. This land is your land, this land is my land. Let’s keep cutting through it.

I miss theaters so much.
