Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ★★★★½

From the opening scene, which is a long take of Baby Groot dancing around while the other Guardians fight a horrific space monster, I knew this was going to be something else.

How many long takes are there in the MCU? I can't really think of any. I feel that MCU is finally giving directors a VOICE in their movies. This is definitely James Gunn's movie. Marvel let him roll with it and it was extremely for the better.

It seems like they've given Watiti free reign with songs about immigrants and such. This is the best thing the MCU can do right now. And I believe that this may be the most unique MCU film to date. Maybe...

Everyone in this has great lines with standouts being Drax, Rocket and Yondu. Gunn does a pretty decent job at balancing out all of these great characters. This film is really about the characters. About halfway through the movie I realized that not much action has happened in a while...

But it didn't bother me.

I could spend another hour with these characters.

Now, the one flaw that I had with this film is...

These characters say what they feel...a lot. Also characters tell other characters what they're probably feeling...a lot. There's quite a bit of exposition in this and it's a tad clunky. A character's name is also his personality. I think some emotional scenes could have used more subtlety. I mean a character's power is literally telling people how they feel.

That's the one flaw, I think I had with this. However, good soundtrack, great characters, good story. Probably one of the best MCU villains we've had in a while minus the Netflix shows.

This film was definitely made for an audience.

Also, is a character having a really cool memorable scene set to an upbeat song becoming a new trend?

Yondu gets one.

Quicksilver gets two

Kingsman had the church scene.

I'm going to assume Ragnarok and Homecoming do the same thing.
