From Dusk Till Dawn

From Dusk Till Dawn ★★★★

This film is a grungy, dirty, pulpy gore-fest and I’d expect nothing different from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. The first half is basically Pulp Fiction 2.0 featuring The criminal Gecko Brothers which just screams Tarantino. The second half turns into something else entirely and between this film and the Spahn Ranch scene, is all the proof that I need that Tarantino needs to make a full on horror film. George Clooney is great in this, super charismatic and can make even the scummiest of characters entertaining and likable.

Tarantino’s character on the other hand, I wanted dead 5 minutes into the film. Just an annoying and uncomfortable creeper. Props to him though because I think he played the character probably exactly how he was supposed to be. Harvey Keitel is also great, he’s an amazing actor that I feel like never got enough recognition. Only thing is I feel like the film just ends when it runs out of tricks. Overall I recommend this film if a fan of Tarantino’s work, even though he didn’t direct it, his fingerprints are all over it. Rodriguez’s directing style is very straight forward but also overly stylized but it mainly works.
