Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Pretty pure rule-breaking filmmaking; Verbinski constantly and consistently works best with setpieces (note how many situations are established and never resolved) and not-so-best with the drama in-between... who cares when your film has this many setpieces, this thick, this fast, this many images all playing against each other yet somehow cohering into something larger and genre-defying..... I haven't seen the Pirates films in years - I thought I hated them - Gore's been delivering films defying boundaries and strictures his entire career.
