I can’t speak to the historical accuracy of the film, but The Woman King is a success as it balances its many different layers. Loaded with rich emotions and thrilling action, this one should’ve made a killing at the box office, especially given Viola Davis’ obvious ability to carry a film. I didn’t love this one, but it will likely go under-seen this year which would be a bummer if not for the controversial nature of its portrayals.
