Turns out, RDJ’s and Val Kilmer’s best performances are in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, aka the better version of Due Date (also starring Michelle Monaghan), which I saw two years ago but didn’t really enjoy.
This, however, was funny and entertaining in its 1 hour and 40 minutes runtime. Although the ending is a little less interesting—and even though it drags a little in the middle—the rest of the movie is brilliantly written and directed. Much of the dialogue is memorable, slick, and hilarious—probably even quotable. Even the plot itself is hilarious and never slacks off. To think that this is Shane Black’s directorial debut blows my mind. It’s nothing innovative but it isn’t trying to be, and it’s very deserving of the love it has gotten over the years. Such a shame that this flopped in the box office.
P.S. This movie is solid proof that buddy movies are romcoms in disguise.
EDIT: On second thought, this probably deserves another half-star. The more I think about it, the more I like it, so it’s an 8/10.
