Judas and the Black Messiah

Judas and the Black Messiah ★★★★

Anchored by two benchmark performances from Stanfield and Kaluuya, this is a political thriller dripping in tension and wrapped in a sticky web of lies. Love the echoes of THE DEPARTED. Loved that free jazz score and how the chaos almost juxtaposes Stanfield’s impulsive decisions throughout the piece.

It’s wrapped up a little too fast in the end and there is a bit that drags in the middle when Kaluuya doesn’t appear onscreen for about 20 mins. But that’s just a testament to how instrumental his performance is to the success of this film.

Give Daniel Kaluuya an Oscar.
