George 🦥’s review published on Letterboxd:
It's not the plane, it's the pilot.
Had to watch a recap of the 1986 movie becuse I didn't like it so I blocked it out of my already bad memory, and it wasn't really necessary. Maverick does have some callbacks but it works great as a standalone feature.
Never saw a trailer cause my interest was non existent and I ended up crying like 4 times. One of them was thanks to the beautiful cinematography; yes I did cried. I'm weak for pretty shots.
Also, the cast is a trap. The Jennifer Conelly and Glen Powell in the same movie?? Fuck of!!
Immersive scenes full of breathtaking action sequences, a great sound design, amazing editing, a nice soundtrack, incredible vfx, and outstanding acting from such a hot cast.
The story was simple yet very touching and entertaining. Relatable characters with very strong chemistry. Pete and Penny are adorable.
This is my Dune of 2022.
This. Is. Cinema.
