I've watched and logged one hundred and thirty one Movies based on Marvel comics.

One hundred and thirty one. Let that number sink in.

The reason that I mention that is because of those one hundred and thirty one Movies, I rank Across the Spider-Verse in first place.

Across the Spider-Verse perfectly captures why I read comics. And why Spider-Man has always been my favourite.

I'm sat here trying to craft a review for it. And tbh, right now I…

one of the most overwhelming viewing experiences of my life, compounded by my inability (refusal) to pee for about 100 minutes. outstanding. another banger for the canon of guys who love to loudly recognize something (e.g. “that’s spider-man, from spider-man”)

edit: whoops almost forgot to add a very important note: if u look like rio morales, dm me…….

Rewatched at the Prince Charles Cinema and how much I love this funny, strange, beautiful film.

Paul lowkey bringing back the romcom!

thoroughly endearing and lovely, perfectly pitched. sensitive, funny, sharp.

the film equivalent of a warm, friendly, open-hearted and open-ended conversation - with at least one talking point being how long until rachel mcadams gets her oscar

Connected with this one more than a lot of Wes’ recent stuff! Somehow the one with the alien and the cosmic uncertainties feels like the most straightforwardly moving to me. Love and grief and melancholy and uncertainty, it’s all there! Loved it very much.

ASTEROID CITY is one of Wes Anderson’s very best films. A flawless ensemble of different characters are connected by a celestial event as they question their place in the universe, seek truth in art & meaning in their lives. A cosmically perfect blend of Anderson’s distinguished style but with deeper and more profound work than we’ve gotten from him as of late. Production design, cinematography, score are expectedly Wes Anderson (meaning they’re terrific).

A big win for the long-term Wes-heads: it’s his oddest, most conceptually audacious film yet. No *idea* what the TikTok set are going to make of it, though.

The pure rush of the Graci Films production logo appearing at the start of the film cannot be matched.
