  • The Darjeeling Limited

    The Darjeeling Limited

    ★★★★

While not Anderson’s best, this film is an excellent pairing with The Royal Tenenbaums. If Tenenbaums is about family dynamics through parenthood, Darjeeling is about what it means to be a sibling and the different roles we take as we progress and reach different familial conflicts. Owen Wilson feels himself as the de facto parent, Adrien Brody is the one who feels so disconnected and envies Wilson’s control, and Jason Schwartzman is the lost younger brother who resents being spoken…

WHAT. AN. ENDING. So much feet. So much badass women. So much Tarantino (even though it’s not his strongest film)

  • A Patch of Blue

    A Patch of Blue

    ★★★★

I’m definitely conflicted about this movie. It seems to be progressive for 1965; giving a big platform to interracial couples and preaching tolerance and that it’s on the inside, not outside that matters. Considering it featured a very controversial kiss between Poitier and Hartman, it was obviously breaking boundaries for its time. If this film came out today it would obviously be received differently because, as society should, we have progressed past a “color blind” concept.

  • Rushmore

    Rushmore

    ★★★★

Rushmore is such an amazing coming-of-age, introspective film that I wish I had seen when I was in high school. I wasn't like Max when I was 15/16; I had no idea what I wanted to do. I went with the flow and did what I could to fit in, be happy, have a fun high school experience, and get out. I went to all of the sports games, took AP courses, had a part-time job, casually joined clubs that…

  • Up in the Air

    Up in the Air

    ★★★★

This was a truly nice surprise. I really didn't know much about this film before watching it besides it starred George Clooney, but everything about it exceeded my expectations. Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick are extremely charming with such depth supported by great dialogue, and Clooney essentially is a corporate version of his Danny Ocean character. I was wondering if this was Kendrick's first real film role, but I, like Anna Kendrick, completely forgot she was in Twilight.

    The screenplay…

  • The Stranger

    The Stranger

    ★★★★

Orson Welles gives a chilling performance as a Nazi war criminal who has erased nearly all evidence of his former identity and attempts to normalize himself as a small Connecticut town prep school teacher. Robinson plays the United Nations agent tracking him down with one major clue- his obsession with clocks. Loretta Young gives a compelling performance as the young girl marrying the mysterious Welles who is dubbed as “the stranger” of the town.

Welles crafted an incredible warm-up to…
