  • The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

    ★★★½

This film was completely carried by none other than Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson. While the film was still enjoyable for the demonic possession horror sub genre, it was missing two key aspects: James Wan and a genuine care for the suffering family. The conjuring franchise is one of the only modern horror universes that continues to captivate me, but this one definitely fell short from Wan’s first two conjuring installations.

Figuring out the racist sign in Minnie’s place from The Hateful Eight is a reference to this movie changed my entire viewing experience

  • The Darjeeling Limited

    The Darjeeling Limited

    ★★★★

While not Anderson’s best, this film is an excellent pairing with The Royal Tenenbaums. If Tenenbaums is about family dynamics through parenthood, Darjeeling is about what it means to be a sibling and the different roles we take as we progress and reach different familial conflicts. Owen Wilson feels himself as the de facto parent, Adrien Brody is the one who feels so disconnected and envies Wilson’s control, and Jason Schwartzman is the lost younger brother who resents being spoken…

  • Sound of Metal

    Sound of Metal

    ★★★★½

Sound of Metal is such a compelling tale of the human experience and how daily functions are taken for granted. The first few minutes are so poignant: the cracking of his knees during squats, hearing his drum sticks lightly tap his girlfriend’s arms, the powder jar hitting the table, the coffee dripping in the pot. So many ways that we know something is functioning correctly because of the minute sounds that accompanies them.

Riz Ahmed is absolutely incredible in this film.…

  • Halloween

    Halloween

    ★★★★½

The score is INCREDIBLE. It’s insane that you almost forget she can’t hear his theme play which cues us to his presence. I’m surprised I’ve never given this a full watch before, but I’m glad I did. Such a great film to start with on my classic horror journey considering so many to come will pay homage to Michael Myers and the original final girl. Also love the Psycho references considering Jamie Lee’s mom was one of the original scream queens!
