    Sound of Metal

Sound of Metal is such a compelling tale of the human experience and how daily functions are taken for granted. The first few minutes are so poignant: the cracking of his knees during squats, hearing his drum sticks lightly tap his girlfriend’s arms, the powder jar hitting the table, the coffee dripping in the pot. So many ways that we know something is functioning correctly because of the minute sounds that accompanies them.

Riz Ahmed is absolutely incredible in this film.…

The score is INCREDIBLE. It’s insane that you almost forget she can’t hear his theme play which cues us to his presence. I’m surprised I’ve never given this a full watch before, but I’m glad I did. Such a great film to start with on my classic horror journey considering so many to come will pay homage to Michael Myers and the original final girl. Also love the Psycho references considering Jamie Lee’s mom was one of the original scream queens!

At this time journalism had been an extremely important and lauded tool in the recent years of WWII, so a blatant attack to its legitimacy would reasonably be condemned by the general public and those in the field. What the critics didn't see what how spot-on Wilder was in exposing the dangerous mania associated with sensationalism in America.

  • Z

One of the most influential political thrillers post-WWII. I didn't really know anything about this film before watching it. I had seen Missing (1982), directed by Costa-Gavras, for a political film course, but it wasn't the best I'd seen. After seeing this film and its impact on international political discourse, I understand more of why he had to make Missing weaker than it could have been. While Z is a very Greek film that only recently had seen such corruption…
