Big Eyes 2014

Bright and breezy biopic but more paint by numbers than expected considering it was written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the guys who wrote three of my all timers The People Vs Larry Flynt, Man on the Moon and Ed Wood.
Dark Shadows 2012

Timmy B doesn't usually make such middling movies, when they're great it's obvious why, equally so when they're not. Dark Shadows is probably the biggest shrug of his career, looks good but treads water from start to finish. Apparently it was more of a Johnny Depp passion project than a Tim Burton one and it shows.

A Haunting in Venice 2023

Mid twentieth century Venice, seances, rainy canals and lamplight, hats off to Branagh for directing this with such style. Unfortunately a lot of character and story business between being locked in the palazzo to the reveal was deathly boring.
