After my initial viewing of EEAaO I could easily see the greatness in the film's uniqueness and technical aspects, yet I still felt a sort of disconnect that left me without the same sense of love for the film that others had. But something clicked during this second viewing, and the film had me deeply enthralled.

It's an incredibly clever film, building it's first part up around the audiences expectations, relying heavily on tropes, only to completely subvert those expectations…

Watching Mulholland Drive feels almost evolutionary, constantly changing with every viewing as new details and nuances come to light. It never once feels old due to its brilliant editing that seamlessly weaves multiple side stories and ideas together in some of the best two hours of cinema ever put to screen.

It never relies on cheap visuals or over explanatory exposition, but rather on its audience's merit and intellect.

    Life on Our Planet

    ★★

Life on Our Planet is a completely servicable documentary series about the origin and evolution of life on earth. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the series takes the viewer on a journey across millions of years from the formation of the first organism to the dominion of humans.

In all fairness the series isn't necessarily bad, just somewhat bland and unoriginal. It never dove deep enough to become truly interesting, and the CGI was often not good enough to capture the wonder needed by series such as this.

There are so many better series and films out there centered around this subject.

    West of Zanzibar

    ★★★

West of Zanzibar is a difficult film to review as it has in terms of subject aged quite poorly in many regards, yet it’s such a uniquely atmospheric film for its time.

I think it’s more interesting than anything else, but it still is incredibly engaging even if it doesn’t hit every note. Tod Browning, Lon Chaney and Mary Nolan are all talented people, though this isn’t their best work.

I’m glad to have seen it as it never felt like a waste of time, but it’s understandably not Browning’s most remarkable film.

Overall a good story worth exploring. The show itself was of a good quality, but it felt somehow stretched thin. I do think it might have worked better as a film or a proper, longer series.

    The Killer

    ★★★★

Cool, calm, and collected, The Killer is a return to form for David Fincher. More in line with his earlier films with its heavy focus on style, the film is engagingly blunt and precise.

Even if he's just playing himself to some degree, Michael Fassbender portrays the role of The Killer perfectly. His performance draws the viewer into the character's macabre world while still managing to throw in some genuinely funny quips.

The film is structured beautifully, making every moment…
