  • The Bob's Burgers Movie

    The Bob's Burgers Movie

    ★★★★

What’s not to like about a 100 minute Bob’s Burgers episode??

It’s great, it’s cute, the songs rock, I’m a happy fan

  • The Power of the Dog

    The Power of the Dog

    ★★★★

The first act starts as a bit of a chore, intercut with breathtaking landscape shots and not much else.

But once at the ranch, this slow crawl of dread and menace unfurls nicely.

The pieces are all there, even from the start, and Campion does an excellent job braiding them together into a compelling psychosexual western. Who would have guessed

  • King Richard

    King Richard

    ★★★★

Cannot believe King Richard had me concerned about the careers of Venus and Serena Williams, two of the best athletes of all time, for even one moment. An impressive feat.

Will Smith is solid, though not my favorite of the nominees nor of the King Richard cast, but it will be a deserved win if/when it happens.

  • I'm Thinking of Ending Things

    I'm Thinking of Ending Things

    ★★★★

What would have been a perfect movie fumbles the ending, maybe only because there’s already a phenomenal ending in the book. Not sure the film benefits from this changed ending, but it is captivating to watch regardless.

I get why Kaufman’s ending is different from the book, I get what he was going for. And if I hadn’t loved to book so much, maybe I wouldn’t have minded. But it’s jarring regardless.

Though everything in this is jarring. And on…

  • Nightmare Alley

    Nightmare Alley

    ★★★★

I would pay an ungodly amount of money to watch Cate Blanchett do that for a full two hours and nothing else.

  • The Matrix Resurrections

    The Matrix Resurrections

    ★★★★

You can tell how close to her heart Lana holds these characters and that love and tenderness shows.

A fun ride that could have benefited from clearer action scenes, I was pining for the fights of the earlier movies, but still a blast.
