There is beauty through simplicity, goes the saying...
Well there is Horror in simplicity as well!
John Carpenter's masterpiece relies on simple, yet effective techniques to scare the shit out of you. I feel this is the main reason today's horror just doesn't compare. An over reliance on special effects rather than atmosphere and imagination.
The opening scene, one of the best horror openers ever, relies not on graphics, but on a simple point of view perspective and eerie music to set the tone off just right! Speaking of the music. The soundtrack was the most important part of this feature. A few simple notes had you on edge, waiting and imagining what is around the literal and figurative corner. One of cinemas best backing tracks that's for sure!
