Summer of Soul (...or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)

Summer of Soul (...or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) ★★★★

Traditionally organized, snappy doc that mixes hit songs, quick sound bites, historical context. It gets right to the point and never drags or does anything outside the norm- for better or worse. How can you not like seeing some of the top performers at their peak? And I also enjoyed the background behind artists I wasn’t very familiar with, like The Fifth Dimension.
Last night around 10pm, in my super quiet neighborhood filled with elderly people, someone played just a single song into the night: My Baby Just Cares for Me by Nina Simone. I listened to it with my door open in the light rain. So beautiful!
