There is nothing I love more in cinema than a compassionate look at humanity. It's why I love Ozu and why Kiarostami is my favourite director, why I respect Sion Sono in his reversal of that effect. All of these directors equate humanity with cinema and understand that these two wonders are of the same cloth-- therefore, this film by Japanese director Kore-Eda is the perfect example of what cinema means to me.
