Brilliantly subtle in all the right ways, but not so much that it isn't clear how toxic of a situation Val has allowed herself to get into. I can see why Brazilians consider this a modern classic.
I hope no one thinks that my giving all 3 movies 5 stars is proof of me being to easy on them. I mean, surely there's SOMETHING I could critique, right?
Linklater's Before trilogy is perfect.
Any other film with a fighting couple would have been, well, any other film. But after falling in love with Jesse and Celine in Before Sunrise and cheering for them in Before Sunset, I couldn't help but cry with them in Before Midnight.…
A maddening, infuriating, incredible experience. With a slow start, it gradually builds to surrealistic nightmare that is almost comical in its absurdity, only to constantly pull you back into its frightening reality. A part of me thinks that Bunuel would have loved this. I had no idea what to expect going in, and I would recommend everyone else do the same.
