Got to see this in this in theaters the other day and there was a smile plastered on my face for pretty much the whole runtime. What an endlessly charming film. It’s a delightfully low-stakes, almost episodic affair; focusing less on some overarching story and more just on the wonders of the day-to-day life of our protoganist. One little thing I loved was how everyone, even just people in the background, were always so wonderstruck every time Kiki flew. It’s odd to think about, but it’s been a while since I saw a movie that remembered how magical something like a person flying truly is. Lots of laughs, lots of endearing and poignant moments, a snarky and sarcastic cat, all gorgeously animated and surrounded by themes of growing up and finding your own path: what’s not to love?
