Jenna Ipcar’s review published on Letterboxd:
Not a bad story but it’s buried under the weight of bland direction and a mediocre supporting cast. Really liked Jim Metzler as the stressed out older brother, strong on the compassion and frustration. Matt Dillon I still can’t take seriously as a non-New Yorker (“You got that carrot detector working full blast, huh“ is exactly the sorta thing my city-slicker ass would say to a horse) but love him interacting with Metlzer, all anger and adoration at the same time. Just wish everybody else was more compelling or memorable.
SE Hinton’s fingerprints definitely all over this though. It’s a bit like a real world Rumble Fish, but with all the blandness that comes with confused kids dealing with Adult Problems.
