    I’ve had quite a few movie experiences in the past year that I would consider beyond quantification, which is a very very good thing. Eva 3.0 + 1.0 made me see decades of artistic persona fold in on itself and disappear into a three hour hot fart. The Amusement Park made me worry for film history and how much else we have lost. Old gave me an existential in the theater and I thought that movie was just… okay? Spider-Man: No Way Home…

    Immediate post theater thoughts incoming, so if this is scattershot it is what it is, haven’t been to the theater since December anyway. 

    There are a lot of ingredients in this movie, and trying to balance both noir and superhero aesthetics is fun in theory but I’m not sure the blend ever works in practice. I rolled my eyes at big hero money shots that come immediately after comparatively reserved scenes of danger and action than what we’ve been used…

    America is afraid to make action this unabashedly pure and epic. Only big complaint is that the romance in the first half gets entirely dropped by the second. But damn if I wasn’t glued to the screen smiling like a kid through almost all of this.

    This is gonna be another one of those "I'm not rating this because it affected me more than anything quantifiable" movies, so yeah.

    I feel like I spent two and a half hours of my life watching a cinematic death rattle. The first indicator that American cinema as an art only has about a generation left in it before everything is just this warehouse bullshit. Maybe not even the first.
