    Dune 1984 is so incredibly David Lynch it hurts. Everything about it screams mad creativity let loose on a galaxy sized canvas. From the Bene Gesserit gom jabbar to the Fremen still suits, Frank Herbert's desert has never again been so vividly realized.     An excellent adaption and update of a Lovecraft classic. Richard Stanley takes the best parts of the story while trimming the fat of Lovecraft's sometimes bloated writing style to tell a solid story of unknown horror and a family torn apart by madness.

    The obvious star is Nic Cage, who plays both the clearly loving father and the most energetic madman seen in years. This is Nic Cage at his cagiest and it's just what a Lovecraft film needed. The…
