Loved every second of this.
I am struggling to reconcile my feelings on this new space epic from director Ridley Scott. What we have in The Martian is a competently filmed and acted sci-fi flick. What we do not have is a film that attempts to push any boundaries, or challenge any preconceived notions of what the best of the genre has to offer. I don't know if I've felt this deeply about a movie in a long time. Chalk this one up as a classic film that completely and utterly lives up to the hype. Here are some random thoughts. It's late and I'm tired.
The cinematography is breathtaking.
The art direction is incredible.
The acting is phenomenal.
The way that David Lean meticulously frames each shot is incredibly beautiful.
The wide desert scenes remind me somewhat of the great Romantic…
