It’s actually a pretty cool look into the world of bodybuilders in the 70’s and how hard they trained and prepared for their competitions. I liked the community that the athletes built around their sport and how their competing and training was all for their own sense of purpose and they were all, for the most part, pretty supportive of each other. The perfect end piece to maybe the best trilogy I can think of. BEFORE MIDNIGHT really shows the raw discomfort and frustration that comes with love — the parts that we don’t like to think about. Jesse & Celine’s love is remarkable and beautiful, but it is not immune to the hardships that come along with a long term relationship. Both people just have to be prepared to ride out the shit and be there for the long haul.
Beautiful film. Amazing trilogy. Love is awesome, and it also fuckin’ sucks.
