James Stuart’s review published on Letterboxd:
Some - alleged - massaging of facts and a superfluous romantic sub plot aside, The Woman King is a sweeping, aspirational historical epic filled with genuine stakes, virtuoso action sequences, distinctive characters as well as a vibrant and dangerous world for these characters to inhabit.
The movie is a crowd pleasing throwback that recalls the likes of Braveheart and Gladiator in terms of both its narrative beats and visceral thrills. It was like going back to the 90’s / early 2000’s in the best way possible. More of this sort of thing.
Also, someone give Lashana Lynch her own action vehicle immediately. She’s got charisma and physicality for days.
