Join Minoru-3PO, Kamatari-D2 and Obi-Wan (Ben) Mifune on their bold quest to rescue Princess Misa Organa from the Galactic Empire of Japan. Witness Ben Mifune battle against his old enemy Darth Fujita in an intense battle involving spears rather than lightsabers. In all seriousness The Hidden Fortress is a great film from director Akira Kurosawa. I'd actually call it an underrated one from his filmography. It was a lot of fun to see all the things that George Lucas borrowed from this film when he made Star Wars.
The Hidden Fortress certainly influenced Star Wars and that alone makes it a necessary watch for film fans. It is a film full of adventure making for a fun watching experience. As always with a Kurosawa film, The Hidden Fortress features fantastic direction and beautiful camera work. The sets and locations used are amazing. The performances are also up to the usual Kurosawa level of greatness. Whenever he's in a Kurosawa film, Toshirô Mifune always ends up being my favorite part of the film. This one is no exception. Mifune (as expected) is a badass as the legendary General who helps escort the Princess to safety. I highly recommend The Hidden Fortress to all those who have not seen it. 8.5/10
