Yeah, I think this is just a little too mean for my tastes. It just has so much contempt for basically everyone in the story it's telling save for Willy Wonka, Charlie, and his family. A lot of that is the source material as I recall (I've read only the second half of the book for whatever reason), so maybe this story just isn't for me. Gene Wilder is a hoot, of course. The infamous boat scene gives us probably the only case of a chicken beheading in a G-Rated film, so there is that. Otherwise, I have no real desire to ever revisit this world.
